Scuba Santas January 2011 Newsletter

Wow, what another great event! Thank you to everyone that attended!

Unfortunately due to lots of last minute cancellations due to colds and flu we didn’t quite make a new record, but we were very close, just 27 divers short of the mark! We’ve raised a good amout for the RNLI so far with donations still coming in (our current total is approx £3,500!).

This year saw the introduction of our first corporate sponsors divelife.co.uk in Manchester who provided all divers with the great reusable shopping bag. They seemed to go down a treat with everyone and we’ll be expanding our sponsorship for the 2011 event. Our thanks go todivelife.co.uk.

In this newsletter there’s a few things to cover:

  • Scuba Santas raffle prize winners
  • 2010 event summary
  • Extreme Underwater Ironing – more world records!
  • Next years event

We hope you had a great time at Scuba Santas 2010, and hope to see you all at the 2011 event. If you have any photos of video to share please get in touch with us (info@scuba-santas.co.uk).

Wishing you a happy and safe 2011, Lloyd.

Scuba Santas 2010 Summary
Scuba Santas 2010 was a great event, its a shame about the record but the most important is that everyone had a great dive!

Donations are still coming in, we’ve raised about £3,500 so far. If you’ve still got funds to send in please do so as soon as possible (all cheques to be made payable to RNLI). Alternatively please make the donation via our justgiving page.

Please send us a comments on our website, twitter, or facebook to let us know what you thought. Its always great to hear feedback on the event!

To see some photos please see: Scuba Santas 2010 Photos
For some video please see our NEW youtube channel: Scuba Santas on youtube

There’s been several changes with scuba santas over the year. The most obvious are our great new graphics created by metalfury design (please let us know what you think!). We at Scuba Santas absolutely love them and will be getting the website updated soon to match the quality of our new logos. We’ve also been pushing for more corporate sponsorship, the goody bags this year went down very well and we’re looking to expand the range of give-aways for 2011. Dive companies benefit from being linked to a great charitable event and at the same time get their brand advertised by some very happy Scuba Santas!

We really hope that you enjoyed the 2010 event. Thank you to everyone that attended, planned to attend, or were involved in the event in any way, you make it what it is!

  • RNLI
  • Families of the fallen

The event will take place on the 3rd April 2011 at the National Diving and Activity Centre, Chepstow. For more information please click the following link….

Scuba Santas 2011
You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but Scuba Santas 2011 is already in planning! We’re in discussions with several large dive companies about corporate sponsorship and more raffle prizes!

After 4 years of being at Vobster Quay we have decided to move the event to the National Diving and Activity Centre, Chepstow. Moving the event will provide the team with additional resources, help the event grow, and help to raise plenty of funds for the RNLI whilst still being the most fun dive you can do in the UK*.

This years event will be held on 18th December 2011 at NDAC, Chepstow

Thank you for all your support over the last few years, we looking forward to seeing you at the 2011 event. Keep checking the website, facebook, and twitter for further updates!

You can let us know you intend to come along early by registering on our facebook event page. Full registration will open later in the year.

* At least we hope that true? Please let us know, info@scuba-santas.co.uk

Started in 2003, DiveLife has grown to become one of the UK’s most comprehensive Dive Centres.  We moved in 2009 to our current premises which total 4500sqft with secure parking for over 40 cars. One of the great draws to DiveLife is the easy access and close proximity to major transport networks. We are at J17 on the M60 which means we are also one junction from the M61/M66/M62 and only 15 minutes from the M6. At less than 40 minutes from both Leeds, Liverpool, Preston and Chester, we are in the heart of the North West.

36 hours to go… 208 registered divers! WOW!

With just 36 hours to go we currently have 208 divers registered for the event. That’s an incredible number and it looks like we’ll smash our world record once again this year (even if we lose a few people to the snow!).

Don’t forget to keep donations rolling in via our justgiving page or by downloading our sponsorship form and nagging family and friends! Donating money to crew training at the RNLI is an excellent cause when these guys head at at all times of year and in all weathers to save the lives of others as volunteers!

Looking forward to seeing everyone bright (, cold,) and early on Sunday 19th December 2010 at Vobster Quay!

Merry Christmas one and all!

Just 1 week until Scuba Santas 2010…

Its just 1 week until Scuba Santas 2010 kicks off!

Things are looking very positive for a NEW WORLD RECORD as we have over 170 divers registered for the event (previous record 158). The weather is looking to take a turn for the colder towards the end of next week but hopefully this won’t have a great impact on the event (just remember to dress up extra warm!).

I’ve been informed that the guys at Vobster Quay are all set and prepared for the flood of Scuba Santas arriving at their doors on the 19th December, and our very helpful team from Trowbridge branch RNLI are getting ready for an excellent day.

I’ve been asked if there’s anything that divers can be doing to help the event in this last week? As far as the event is concerned everything is set, but there are many ways in which you can still help…

  1. Make sure all your equipment is working and suitable for cold water diving
  2. Ensure you’ve registered on http://event.scuba-santas.co.uk to help registration on the day
  3. Start nagging your friends to donate via http://www.justgiving.com/scubasantas2010 or download the sponsorship form
  4. Get your local dive centre or dive superstore involved by getting them to donate to the scuba santas raffle (they’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling and plenty of mention on the internet/diving community as thanks!)
  5. If you haven’t already done so ensure you contact Vobster Quay to book at space in the bottom car park
  6. When donating either online or via sponsorship forms leave your details so that you can be entered into the Scuba Santas raffle
  7. Familiarise yourself with the rules for the scuba santas world record

During the event? Whilst we have made as many plans as possible to keep things running smoothly help from participants makes things run much easier…

  1. Upon arrival go to the registration desk and get yourself signed in  - you’ll be able to collect your goody bag upon registration (priority is given to those who registered online)
  2. Please be patient, we have allot of vehicles and allot of divers trying to get to places!
  3. Plan your dive, if you’re happy for a longer dive ~45minutes for the record ensure you kit up early and get to the water for the start of the dive. Alternatively if you want a short a dive as possible leave room for divers to get to the water
  4. Please be efficient as possible in kitting up and entering/exiting the water
  5. Listen out for announcements and pay attention during the briefing
  6. Have as much fun as possible whilst at all times remaining safe

What about after the event? After what we hope to be the best dive of 2010 there’s plenty that still needs to be done…

  1. If you’ve taken photos of video please contact us and let us know where the photos are hosted so we can link to them. If you haven’t got anywhere to host online let us know and we’ll host them for you. Photos are usually requested from journalists for reports about the event so we ask if we can have permission to use them.
  2. If you’ve raised money using your own justgiving page, or donated directly to the RNLI please let us know and we’ll add your amount to our total
  3. Ensure you get all sponsorship forms to us by the 10th January 2011 (if you can’t get them to us by then please let us know)
  4. The diving prize draw will take place on the 5th January 2011 with winners being notified soon after. If you’ve donated and haven’t included your details anywhere let us know and you’ll be added to the list of entrants.

We’re really looking forward to the event, good luck with your fund-raising and see you next Sunday.

Merry Christmas, Lloyd.
