Scuba Santas January 2011 Newsletter

Wow, what another great event! Thank you to everyone that attended!

Unfortunately due to lots of last minute cancellations due to colds and flu we didn’t quite make a new record, but we were very close, just 27 divers short of the mark! We’ve raised a good amout for the RNLI so far with donations still coming in (our current total is approx £3,500!).

This year saw the introduction of our first corporate sponsors divelife.co.uk in Manchester who provided all divers with the great reusable shopping bag. They seemed to go down a treat with everyone and we’ll be expanding our sponsorship for the 2011 event. Our thanks go todivelife.co.uk.

In this newsletter there’s a few things to cover:

  • Scuba Santas raffle prize winners
  • 2010 event summary
  • Extreme Underwater Ironing – more world records!
  • Next years event

We hope you had a great time at Scuba Santas 2010, and hope to see you all at the 2011 event. If you have any photos of video to share please get in touch with us (info@scuba-santas.co.uk).

Wishing you a happy and safe 2011, Lloyd.
18th December 2011 from 9am, National Diving and Activity Centre, nr. Chepstow

Scuba Santas 2010 Summary
Scuba Santas 2010 was a great event, its a shame about the record but the most important is that everyone had a great dive!

Donations are still coming in, we’ve raised about £3,500 so far. If you’ve still got funds to send in please do so as soon as possible (all cheques to be made payable to RNLI). Alternatively please make the donation via our justgiving page.

Please send us a comments on our website, twitter, or facebook to let us know what you thought. Its always great to hear feedback on the event!

To see some photos please see: Scuba Santas 2010 Photos
For some video please see our NEW youtube channel: Scuba Santas on youtube

There’s been several changes with scuba santas over the year. The most obvious are our great new graphics created by metalfury design (please let us know what you think!). We at Scuba Santas absolutely love them and will be getting the website updated soon to match the quality of our new logos. We’ve also been pushing for more corporate sponsorship, the goody bags this year went down very well and we’re looking to expand the range of give-aways for 2011. Dive companies benefit from being linked to a great charitable event and at the same time get their brand advertised by some very happy Scuba Santas!

We really hope that you enjoyed the 2010 event. Thank you to everyone that attended, planned to attend, or were involved in the event in any way, you make it what it is!

Extreme Underwater Ironing
If, after Scuba Santas 2010, you’ve still got a fever for getting involved in world record attempts, you want to raise more money for some great charities, or you want to get involved in another fun crazy dive then I’ve got just the event for you….

After a year long break ‘extreme underwater ironing’ is back for another record attempt. After stealing the ironing record away from the Australians two years ago its time to extend the record even further and raise money for charity at the same time.

This year’s charities are:

  • Scuba Trust
  • RNLI
  • Families of the fallen

The event will take place on the 3rd April 2011 at the National Diving and Activity Centre, Chepstow. For more information please click the following link….

Scuba Santas 2011
You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but Scuba Santas 2011 is already in planning! We’re in discussions with several large dive companies about corporate sponsorship and more raffle prizes!

After 4 years of being at Vobster Quay we have decided to move the event to the National Diving and Activity Centre, Chepstow. Moving the event will provide the team with additional resources, help the event grow, and help to raise plenty of funds for the RNLI whilst still being the most fun dive you can do in the UK*.

This years event will be held on 18th December 2011 at NDAC, Chepstow

Thank you for all your support over the last few years, we looking forward to seeing you at the 2011 event. Keep checking the website, facebook, and twitter for further updates!

You can let us know you intend to come along early by registering on our facebook event page. Full registration will open later in the year.

* At least we hope that true? Please let us know, info@scuba-santas.co.uk

Corporate Sponsorship 2010

Hello,

Scuba Santas is a world record holding mass participation scuba diving event held each year in the south west. The event has grown exponentially since it began four years ago and the momentum built up does not appear to be slowing. We support the RNLI and last year we achieved the following:
New world record with 158 divers in the water

  • Just under £10,000 raised for the RNLI
  • Coverage on national BBC radio, BBC local TV coverage, ITV local TV coverage, Radio Yorkshire
  • Articles in numerous newspapers and magazines
  • Growth as a spectator event with more people arriving on site to watch the gathering
  • Full support from the RNLI including press releases
  • Recognition by at least 2 world record agencies (still awaiting confirmation from others)

In efforts to cement the event in the dive calendar we are looking to build a brand around Scuba Santas which will help it to continually grow for several years ahead. In order to do this we would like to attract corporate sponsorship in return giving national exposure to the companies involved.

Ways of helping

There are two ways in which we would like companies to get involved:

  • Donate to our raffle. Prizes can be as large or small as you wish, there is no prize ordering a draw is made at random from all entrants.
  • Become one of our corporate sponsors. Please email for packages ranging between  £150 and £750. Corporate sponsors command a much bigger presence on the website

If you are interested in helping, but have other ideas of how your company could help we are willing to discuss these and make something happen!

…and in return

  • Linked content on the website
  • Thank you messages on twitter, facebook, and website
  • Thank you and link in Scuba Santa’s newsletter
  • Electronic certificate of appreciation to display at your place of business
  • Your brand/company name on an event memento (*depending on sponsorship level)
  • Main sponsors are mentioned on event day during greeting

The Scuba Santa’s website receives over 150 unique visits per day* in a period of 3 months around the event. The facebook page is currently receiving ~300 impressions per day even now, this grows massively closer to the event. Our twitter account gains followers each and every day (with lots of retweets also). * For 2009 event.

We are currently working with designers who are creating a consistent image for all of our sites.

Divers from all over the UK participate in Scuba Santas and have referred to it as “one of the best dives I have ever done “, we believe this along with a recognisable brand will keep the event, and with it your brand exposure, growing for some time to come. Non-divers also attend the event with friends and partners and there is a draw from the surrounding area for event viewing.

Newsletter September 2010

Ho-ho-ho everyone,

August was another busy month for Scuba Santas. Main activities were a visit to the South West Dive Show to talk to various companies and a big push to get the corporate sponsorship packages finalised and sent out.

The corporate sponsorship packages are in order to get some mementos of the day for all divers and to help business get their products out to a bigger audience – and also to show what nice people they are!.

By growing the event we raise more money for the RNLI so please help in any way you can! If you are aware of a company that would be willing to help with sponsorship please forward their contact details to info@scuba-santas.co.uk.

Registration for the event is steadily growing @ http://event.scuba-santas.co.uk/. Remember registration is the only way to guarantee that you’ll get event mementos!*

We’re still a few months out, in fact the site tells me its 107 days, but its looking great for the 19th December @ Vobster Quay!

Don’t be afraid to get in touch!

Merry Christmas and safe diving,

Lloyd Watkin
Scuba Santas Organiser

* Corporate sponsorship required though :)
