2010 Event Summary

Santa got into the water a bit later than originally planned for this years event. After the snow made roads around Vobster Quay unsafe to travel on he returned on the 9th January 2011 to take another stab at the world record. Numbers looked promising before the event (207 remaining after cancellations), but after a wave of colds and flu hit the UK numbers were decimated once again.

That said, an impressive 142 divers entered the 6 degree celsius water on a sunny January morning to raise money for the RNLI and to experience what is the phenomenon that is Scuba Santas!

Total Raised

Money is still rolling in and we’re awaiting feedback from Geoff Rossell of Trowbridge RNLI on how much was raised on the day

Press Coverage

This year we had a huge amount of video attention, partly due to the increased number of emails going out, the wonderful work of Amy Caldwell at the RNLI, and the huge amount of effort put in by members of Yorkshire Divers and the diving community at large.

Firstly we appeared on BBC Radio Bristol, BBC Radio Somerset, Western Daily Press, and several other newspapers. There’s still a few articles due to appear over the next few weeks.

Here’s two clips from ITV West country news including clips from the talented underwater videographer/photographer David Pearson:

I’ve also included links to the various press releases sent out by the RNLI over the past 6 months:

Photos and Video

We saw many 100’s of photos being taken at the Scuba Santas 2010 event. If you have any we’d love to hear from you and put them up on our website. If you have any photos you’d like to share please email them to info@scuba-santas.co.uk!

As always there were some great photos taken at the event. Rob Cuss as always did an excellent job of taking photos along with the talented Jason Brown took some execllent shots too:

There’s also a photo thread up on Yorkshire Divers which you can visit to see more shots from the day.

Thanks to our Sponsors

Again, I’d like to thank the sponsors and those companies that donated diving prizes to Scuba Santas. Please click for more information about Scuba Santas 2010 event sponsors. If your company or you know a company that would like to get involved with Scuba Santas 2011 please point them towards our email address (info@scuba-santas.co.uk).

Next Year

Next year sees even more changes to Scuba Santas, firstly we’re moving the event to the National Diving and Activity Centre near Chepstow. Vobster Quay has been our home for the last 4 years, but by moving the event it can continue to grow and raise funds for the RNLI for many years to come. In addition we already have a few sponsors lined up for Scuba Santas 2011 so things are already in planning!

A big thank you…

As always the biggest thanks need to go to all of the people involved in Scuba Santas 2010! Without supporting the event whether diving, donating, providing moral support, or even just having a good laugh at those attending you are involved in Scuba Santas and make it a great event to attend and be involved with…

So until the 18th December 2011 I leave you with a big Ho Ho Ho, and I’ll see you for our next attempt at the world record!

Scuba Santas 2011 – 18th December 2011

National Diving and Activity Centre, Chepstow
