Scuba Diving Dressed As Santa Claus For Charity

- Sunday, 18th December 2011 - NDAC, Chepstow

Scuba Santas 2010 postponed until 9th January 2011

Unfortunately due to the current bad weather we are going to have to postpone the event until the 9th January 2011.

With the heavy snowfall overnight and freezing conditions for the evening of the 18th December the Met Office have released weather warnings for the South West and advised people not to drive unless necessary. We are Scuba Santas feel that in the interest of safety (in getting to/from) the event its is better to postpone the event until the weather (and more importantly safety factor) improves.

Vobster Quay will still be open however and if you wish to dive they will be happy to receive you.

The programme for Scuba Santas 2010 will remain the same but the fund raising will be extended and the prize draw will now take place after the 9th January 2011.

We hope to still see you at the event on 9th January 2011, there’s still goody bags, diving prizes, and still a world record to aim for!

Merry Christmas, Lloyd.

If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to contact us. Additionally please pass this message on to anyone you know who was looking to attend Scuba Santas 2010.

36 hours to go… 208 registered divers! WOW!

With just 36 hours to go we currently have 208 divers registered for the event. That’s an incredible number and it looks like we’ll smash our world record once again this year (even if we lose a few people to the snow!).

Don’t forget to keep donations rolling in via our justgiving page or by downloading our sponsorship form and nagging family and friends! Donating money to crew training at the RNLI is an excellent cause when these guys head at at all times of year and in all weathers to save the lives of others as volunteers!

Looking forward to seeing everyone bright (, cold,) and early on Sunday 19th December 2010 at Vobster Quay!

Merry Christmas one and all!

Lloyd

Just 1 week until Scuba Santas 2010…

Its just 1 week until Scuba Santas 2010 kicks off!

Things are looking very positive for a NEW WORLD RECORD as we have over 170 divers registered for the event (previous record 158). The weather is looking to take a turn for the colder towards the end of next week but hopefully this won’t have a great impact on the event (just remember to dress up extra warm!).

I’ve been informed that the guys at Vobster Quay are all set and prepared for the flood of Scuba Santas arriving at their doors on the 19th December, and our very helpful team from Trowbridge branch RNLI are getting ready for an excellent day.

I’ve been asked if there’s anything that divers can be doing to help the event in this last week? As far as the event is concerned everything is set, but there are many ways in which you can still help…

  1. Make sure all your equipment is working and suitable for cold water diving
  2. Ensure you’ve registered on http://event.scuba-santas.co.uk to help registration on the day
  3. Start nagging your friends to donate via http://www.justgiving.com/scubasantas2010 or download the sponsorship form
  4. Get your local dive centre or dive superstore involved by getting them to donate to the scuba santas raffle (they’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling and plenty of mention on the internet/diving community as thanks!)
  5. If you haven’t already done so ensure you contact Vobster Quay to book at space in the bottom car park
  6. When donating either online or via sponsorship forms leave your details so that you can be entered into the Scuba Santas raffle
  7. Familiarise yourself with the rules for the scuba santas world record

During the event? Whilst we have made as many plans as possible to keep things running smoothly help from participants makes things run much easier…

  1. Upon arrival go to the registration desk and get yourself signed in  - you’ll be able to collect your goody bag upon registration (priority is given to those who registered online)
  2. Please be patient, we have allot of vehicles and allot of divers trying to get to places!
  3. Plan your dive, if you’re happy for a longer dive ~45minutes for the record ensure you kit up early and get to the water for the start of the dive. Alternatively if you want a short a dive as possible leave room for divers to get to the water
  4. Please be efficient as possible in kitting up and entering/exiting the water
  5. Listen out for announcements and pay attention during the briefing
  6. Have as much fun as possible whilst at all times remaining safe

What about after the event? After what we hope to be the best dive of 2010 there’s plenty that still needs to be done…

  1. If you’ve taken photos of video please contact us and let us know where the photos are hosted so we can link to them. If you haven’t got anywhere to host online let us know and we’ll host them for you. Photos are usually requested from journalists for reports about the event so we ask if we can have permission to use them.
  2. If you’ve raised money using your own justgiving page, or donated directly to the RNLI please let us know and we’ll add your amount to our total
  3. Ensure you get all sponsorship forms to us by the 10th January 2011 (if you can’t get them to us by then please let us know)
  4. The diving prize draw will take place on the 5th January 2011 with winners being notified soon after. If you’ve donated and haven’t included your details anywhere let us know and you’ll be added to the list of entrants.

We’re really looking forward to the event, good luck with your fund-raising and see you next Sunday.

Merry Christmas, Lloyd.

Diving prizes are donated by generous diving and diving related companies and really help make scuba santas an even more fun event!

Underwater film footage for itv

Hello Scuba Santas,

Itv have got in touch with us because they will be covering the event again.

Unfortunately they will not be able to film this time. We have arranged for the event to be filmed on land but if any of you are planning on doing some underwater filming and would love to possibly see your work on TV and online, then please get in touch with us.

It would be brilliant to not only have on land but also underwater footage of our, hopefully again, record breaking event!

P.S. Scuba Santas is less than 1 month away, time to get excited!

Donations can be made through Scuba Santas’ JustGiving page for 2010!

Who has not done already can register here.

See you all on the 19th!
